About Me

This blog was created mostly as an outlet for me and anyone who cares about what I do in my spare time. I know there are tons of other ways I could have published this information but I am not very "techy"; (I don't own anything that starts with an "i": ipad, iphone or ipod) and I like to stick with what I know, hence the blog format. I realized my life is busy but I needed an outlet, taking time to do something that I enjoy, for my sanity. This blog will document all the random projects, activities, interests that I do in my free time. This will be an evolving blog but who knows maybe you will enjoy the read and even learn something.

Delicious Wassail

I love this and it is so easy to make. It does require a few ingredients that I didn't have in my pantry but if you look in my pantry you know that isnt saying much... I love that you put in a crock pot and then you are done. It also makes the house smell deliciously autumney.. if autumn had a smell it would this.
It does make A LOT.. so you might even want to half the reciepe. I just make it all and keep in the fridge and reheat.. It is good but NOT as good as the first time. I am addicted. This is just the beginning of my "autumn posts." I tried things for Thanksgiving dinner last week so I will post those.

Wassail for a Crowd:2 quarts apple juice or apple cider- ("no sugar added" juice is best in my opinion, but use whatever you have!)
2 1/2 c. orange juice
1 Tbsp. lemon juice
2 tsp. ground cinnamon
12-14 whole cloves
1/8 tsp. ground nutmeg
pinch of ground ginger

Heat everything in the crock-pot on low heat for 3-6 hours.  It is ready after it is piping hot and the spices (besides the cloves) are mostly incorporated into the wassail and no longer floating- you may need to stir it a couple of times.  Your home will smell heavenly!  If you are in more of a hurry you can also heat it on the stove-top over medium heat for maybe 5-10 minutes and then turn it down to low heat!  If you leave it on higher heat on the stove-top it will thicken and eventually caramelize- good for syrup but not so good for drinking.  (Not that I am speaking from experience but never fear if it does thicken a bit, just take it off the heat and let it cool down for a while- maybe even add a little bit of water- and it will thin mostly back down.)
